This lecture covers basic concepts on zygomaticomaxillary (ZMC) fracture repair and also discusses surgical pearls to increase your surgical efficiency.
A new ZMC fracture pattern classification that are based on a surgical treatment algorithm used by Dr. Lee is also introduced.
ZMC Fracture Definition
Zygomaticomaxillary Buttress is a vertically-oriented major structural support to midface and upper face. This support must be restored during surgical repair.
Minor structural support is provided by infraorbital rim and zygomatic arch. As such, zygomatic arch fractures do not need to be routinely plated.
