Overview of Plating Course Demonstration & Plating Sequence
Key Concepts:
- When applying Ex-fix, place it along external oblique line (away from inferior alveolar nerve) and away from where the plates will be secured.
- Adjust the Ex-fix Rods away from active surgical site.
- ZMC Fracture consists of 4 fractures along : Zygomaticomaxillary suture, zygomaticosphenoid suture, zygomaticofrontal suture & Zygomaticotemporal suture
- Once premorbid occlusion restored with rigid MMF, Begin plating with the easiest fracture site to avoid compounding errors.
- For PS fracture, biomechanically, Inferior bony displacement can occur. Making the inferior border plate more important for fracture stability
- For Angle Fracture, biomechanically, Superior border bony displacement can occur along the Champy line. Making the superior border plate more important for fracture stability.
- For Most ZMC Fractures, being ORIF at the ZF suture line as this area bone is thick and is typically well preserved with good visual reference. For second suture, ZM suture line is typically plated. For Third plate, Infraorbital rim fx is plated if additional stability is desired. Zygomatic Arch Fracture (along ZT suture) does not require plating.
